Good morning: For my granddaughter it’s a stuffed toy named “Foxy.” She never lets it out of her sight. She wouldn’t think of going anywhere without it. It’s her constant companion 24/7. What is your Most Prized Possession? For some it may be family photos or a wedding dress. Others may cherish handwritten letters or a classic car. But whatever it is, it won’t completely satisfy, and it won’t last. One day Foxy won’t be as amazing and wonderful to a little girl as it is today. It will likely be quietly “retired” to a box in a closet and forgotten. How many MPPs have you gone through over the years? Favorite tee shirts, games, phones, letter jackets, boats and vacation homes all eventually lose their appeal. What’s left? It’s easy to be swayed by the world’s influence and to think that a MPP must be something that we can see and touch. We’re told that if we only have a little more money, newer things, or are more popular, life will be good. But Jesus says, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven...For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matt. 6:19-21). As believers, our MPP is infinitely more precious than any sentimental keepsake or expensive possession. It is the riches of salvation for which Jesus paid the ultimate price on the cross. By faith we possess eternal blessings: forgiveness of sins, peace with God, and forever-joy in heaven. That treasure of God’s grace will never lose value. It will always fill the heart’s emptiness. It gives joy and purpose to each day of our lives. May we never let it out of our sight. May it comfort, strengthen, and amaze us today. Yours in Christ, Pastor Our service is at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
