Good morning,
Do you know what each of us does more than 23,000 times each day, yet we hardly ever think about it? We breathe. But just because we don’t think about it doesn’t mean it’s not important. Without our lungs taking in air we would soon die. One of the dangerous symptoms of COVID is that the virus makes breathing difficult or impossible
There is another kind of breathing which is even more vital because it is necessary for spiritual life. That is the breath of the Holy Spirit which breathes new life into our spiritually dead hearts. God once set the prophet Ezekiel in a valley of dry bones and told him, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD!…I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’” (Ezek. 37:4-5).
By the Spirit inspired message of Christ crucified and risen for our peace with God, we have been resuscitated and made living, breathing children of God. Don’t take that breath of the Spirit for granted. The Spirit preserves and strengthens the new life through our reading, hearing, study, and meditation upon the news of forgiveness through faith in Jesus. Make it a priority to spend time in the Word today. Tomorrow is Pentecost, the day on which the Lord poured out the Holy Spirit upon the apostles equipping them to take the gospel out to the world. Let’s look forward to hearing that saving news tomorrow either in person or online. Truly, our life depends on it!
Yours in Christ,
Pastor
