Good morning:

A dream of many is to be part of something bigger, to know that their life is more than just going to school or work, paying the bills, and filling one little niche in their community. But how realistic is that? None of us is famous. Have you ever wondered how many people would notice if you suddenly disappeared? Certainly family and friends would, but they are the tiniest percentage of the billions of people in the world. If only we were part of something bigger!

The heavenly Father assures us that we are. He has made us His own children by faith in Jesus. He has made us part of that vast group of millions upon millions of believers gathered into the Holy Christian Church. Peter writes: “You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ….But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light” (1 Peter 2:5, 9).

By God’s grace and Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, we are part of something bigger and far more glorious than anything this world can offer. There is far more to life for the believer than family, work, and fun. We live every day knowing that we are God’s, and therefore even the most mundane activity is an opportunity to show love for the Lord and our neighbor. The smallest details of our lives are noticed and used by the Lord for our eternal good. You are not an insignificant “nobody,” but part of something bigger—Christ’s kingdom. You are not “expendable,” but precious to the heavenly Father.

In tomorrow’s sermon text (Ezek. 17:22-24), the Lord compares His Church to a tree which towers over every other tree in the forest and provides shelter and security for everyone under its branches.

In Christ,

Pastor
