Good morning:

Did you wake up this morning with a favorite melody playing in your head? Did you take advantage of bathroom acoustics and sing in the shower? We like to sing. Even if our voices and sense of pitch are less than ideal, there’s nothing quite like expressing ourselves in song. Joy, sadness, and determination can all be put into song.

Music is among the greatest gifts God has given us, and like every gift, He wants us to use and enjoy it with grateful hearts. The psalmist writes, “I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.” The best songs of all are those praising God for His grace toward undeserving sinners. He is the LORD, the God of faithful love and promise, who gives us reason to sing from the heart with the greatest joy. He sent His Son to bear our sins. Jesus laid down His holy life to make peace between us and God. He rose from the dead and now rules over all things at the Father’s right hand for our blessing.

So sing to the Lord! Sing with a thankful spirit for the gift of a new day of God’s mercies, a new day to live in thankfulness for forgiveness, a new day to serve Him by faithfully carrying out our roles as parents, sons and daughters, employees, and neighbors to those around us. If today means facing sickness, sadness, or other difficulties, sing to the Lord with confident prayers for His strength and comfort, for “The righteous cry out and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Ps. 34:17-18).

Sing to the Lord for present blessings and the promise of even greater things to come. Sing to Him today in all you do and say, and look forward to continuing the song tomorrow in harmony with fellow believers in God’s house.

Yours in Christ,
