Good morning:

Sometime today Inspiration4, the spacecraft which has been orbiting earth for the past several days, is scheduled to splash down in the Atlantic Ocean. From an altitude of 360 miles, the four people aboard have had a view of the planet which only a handful of others have experienced. To see the entire globe at one time can’t help but make one think of the “big picture,” what is it all about?

It’s worth our thinking about too. We have our day-to-day ground-level view and our limited personal perspective of life. We have goals for the weekend, for our work and family. You may have future plans for retirement years. But in the big picture, what is it all about?

In His Word God puts everything into eternal perspective. He tells us that He made all things from the smallest atom to the largest galaxy simply by saying the word. “‘Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?’ declares the LORD” (Is. 66:2). Even more amazingly, from eternity He has loved humankind; and even though He knew that people would sin against Him and become corrupt, He was determined to save them. “God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them” (2 Cor. 5:19).

By faith we are God’s children and heirs of heaven. For the present, however, we are still on earth entrusted with a special assignment: “Go and make disciples of all nations” (Matt. 28:19). May the everyday details of school, work, and weekend relaxation not prevent us from seeing the big picture and using every opportunity to let the light of Jesus shine out for others to see and believe!

Yours in Christ.
