Good morning:

“The end” draws mixed reactions, doesn’t it? If it has been an especially busy week and you’ve had more than the usual unpleasant surprises along the way, the end of the week is a welcome relief. On the other hand, the end of a relaxing vacation or the conclusion of a TV series you’ve been binge-watching can be a disappointment. Earthly life is filled with endings. A popular country song is titled: “Last Time for Everything.” Solomon writes, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die” (Eccl. 3:1).

While we are not surprised by endings, how often do you think of the End, the end of all things. Days quickly pass one after the other. Today is often similar to yesterday and tomorrow. It’s easy to live as though time will continue forever. But there is an end, not just for every thing at different times, but for all created things on the last day. The Lord doesn’t want us to be surprised, but to be ready for whenever that day dawns.

It will be day of mixed reactions. For those who ignored God’s warning and were engrossed in work, homes, cars, vacations, and whatever else seemed so important at the time, the last day will be the worst day ever. The unbeliever will stand before the Judge and be condemned to eternal suffering. For those who by faith trust in Jesus for forgiveness and seek first His kingdom, the last day will be the joyful beginning of an eternity of unimaginable blessings the Lord has prepared for those who love Him.

As we start a new day, let’s not forget the End. “For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come” (Heb. 13:14).

Yours in Christ,

Pastor
