Good morning everyone,

“Is this all there is?” Think of how often you hear that. You could be at an all-you-can-eat buffet with dozens of menu items from which to choose, and there will still be someone who says, “Is this all?” A child might have a closet full of toys and games, an adult could have a garage full of “toys,” and still they want something more. People tire of relationships and go searching for someone else.

No matter how much we have of this world, it’s never enough to be completely fulfilling and satisfying. How often have you looked at your job, home, and place in life and thought, “Is this all there is?” Many people feel something is missing but don’t know what it is.

Solomon writes: “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men” (Eccl. 3:11). God has created everyone with a natural knowledge of Himself and the realization that there is more than what we see in the present. One’s life cannot be completely satisfying without fellowship with His Creator and Savior. No matter how much money or how many life-experiences one has, it’s all meaningless apart from faith in the innocent Savior who died for the guilty, that the guilty might be pronounced innocent on the last day.

By faith we know that there is much more than what we see now. There is so much more to look forward to than just this world spoiled by sin. God says, “Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth….Be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create” (Is. 65:17-18). As we come to the end of another church year, we have the assurance that an amazing home in heaven is waiting.

So the next time you find yourself asking, “Is this all there is?” remember the Lord’s promises and thank Him that there is so much more to anticipate in His presence!

Tomorrow’s sermon text (Is. 51:3-6) directs us away from this temporary, sin-filled world to the perfect and permanent salvation won for us by Jesus.

In Jesus’ name,

Pastor
