Good morning,

Have you ever met a celebrity? I once sat ten feet away from a Brewers pitcher in a Hales Corners barbershop. What an opportunity! The problem was I didn’t know who it was until he was out the door and in the parking lot. He looked like any other typical young man in need of a haircut. If I had known who he was, I would have struck up a conversation while we waited. I would have asked for an autograph. I would have watched the paper for his next pitching assignment. I would have shared my experience.

We may not personally know a celebrity, but by God’s grace we know someone infinitely greater. The Son of God Himself came to live on earth. “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us,” John writes. What an opportunity! Yet so many don’t recognize who He is. “He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him” (Jn. 1:11). To many he looks like any other man, one they might admire for His wisdom, one they might try to imitate for His love, but still just a man. But if that’s all they see, they miss recognizing their Savior. For in Scripture God reveals Jesus not just as a man, but also true God, who came to take our sin and punishment upon Himself and give us His righteousness.

As we begin our day, let’s cherish the opportunities to meet with Jesus in His Word. May we take the time to read His Word and speak to Him in prayer. May we praise Him as the One who overcame death by His own suffering and death, that we might live forever. May we gladly tell others and look forward to our fellowship with Him and one another tomorrow in His house.

In His name,

Pastor
